YEAR
2024

The newly established Sydney Waterfront Campus at Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) is now fully accessible to all students and visitors. This achievement underscores NSCC's dedication to "opening pathways and providing equitable opportunities for students to engage fully in our programs and services." The campus has worked hard to earn the Rick Hansen Accessibility Gold Certification.
This certification recognizes the meaningful accessibility of a site by evaluating the complete user experience. Signage is crucial in developing accessible environments.
With NSCC's accessibility objectives as a guide, the signage system at the Sydney campus was thoughtfully designed to accommodate the varied needs of the community, including individuals with disabilities, or neurodivergent individuals. To this end, NSCC's standard signage was adapted to include features like tactile lettering and braille. Careful consideration was also given to type heights, line length, color, and contrast to maximize readability and ease of use for everyone.
